Winning narrative battles against state-players
- Different sources of information have different quality and depth
- I have to be able to spot broken sources of information ecology
- Information has no agenda
- If you are truthful, you believe that your information is true, that it has some correlation in reality
- If something is true it has correlation between what you say and independent variable event or variable in reality
- You can propagate false information honestly
- Information is representative if it's true and gives the whole picture or all relevant parts of the picture of reality
- If Government or big corporation is waging an information warfare with you, it is very asymmetrical. Not only you are not aware of it, you do not know that you are engaged in war. You are severely outgunned and outnumbered. So when you're trying to gather information that is best for your development, Government is trying to manipulate you with the information they want you to use.
- This information is pollution to the information ecology
- Signal is being decoupled from the intention or the motive of the sender. Signal is shared so the person receiving it doesn't know the intent of that signal
- News channel can hijack your attention by broadcasting information that is inflammatory. That way making you spend more time and attention than you would like to
.- The signal that you're getting everywhere is mostly strategic. Meaning that it has a bias built in. The agent that shares the information has it's own needs and priorities built in to the message.
- The first question when trying to understand information, is to ask why is that agent sharing the information that it's sharing? What they gain from it?
- Exponential tech leaps leads to exponentially asymmetric warfare with asymmetric wins and losses with exponential wins in a finite playing field. This is dangerous
- The underlying mechanisms has been there forever, but technology forces us to explore and limit that structure and function much more than we used to before.
- You must start to create spaces of truthfulness where the highest quality and highest value is the truthfulness of information. With people that are committed to that, so they don't lie. Lie by omission or by false representation of the whole.
- That results in tremendous intimacy and tremendous vulnerability. Create enough psychological safety nets, so that people can explore being honest with each other.
- Stop polluting your own information ecology by rationalizing why it's ok to lie or omit Truth..
- Not only there has to be the correlation with what I say and the shared reality, as well as my thoughts and the reality
- Epistemology is how we know stuff.
- The complexity of the World makes epistemology so hard and that's why most people are not even trying to do that.
- Why is this important?
- Most of the people really believe that climate disaster is coming and are ready to go to narrative warfare for it. But they have not looked at the primary information of the science.
- There is almost always decoupling about the strength of their belief of fact and the actual epistemological verification they have of that fact.
- look at artificial intelligence or climate or any other current issue. The speed of making vital decisions is getting faster while the information we are basing those decisions is getting weaker or of less quality.
